Lusting Over Leather

For many, leather brings back memories of the 1960’s, distressed bombers in hues of black, charcoal and brown, worn with washed denim and beaten up sneakers.

Swings and roundabouts, this trend has inevitably become popular amongst the fashion icons to bring to the catwalks a chic reinvention of traditional leather.

The luxe trend now extends far and beyond the humble bomber jacket, we are seeing leather (and “pleather” for the more economically savvy of us shoppers), in the form of caps, jogging pants, jackets, angular skirts, dresses – the list goes on.

The fashion public are embracing it with open arms, rocking the leather on all occasions, transitioning it from day to night with ease.

We are seeing the individual embrace leather in all forms to smarten up their day-wear and to add a degree of sex appeal to night-wear. There is something irresistibly chic about a woman in leather.

It is a trend that is effortlessly transforming the way we dress, the comfort of soft leather pieces juxtapose with the edgy rock star feel of wearing a little leather.

We have seen brands such as Phillip Lim, Prada, Acne, McQueen and Alexander Wang embrace the leather in their collections, deviating from luxe fabrics in favour of the buttery luxury of this trend.

The sleek appeal of leather pieces are something which make them a wardrobe staple, the wearability and transformability of leather has diversified from the humble sixties bomber jacket into a coveted and essential trend of the winter season.
